Tutoring can happen wherever is best for you. My rule is: if you're not comfortable and happy, you're not learning.
Private tutoring
From €20/hour · Introductory rate
Personalized or curriculum-based instruction tailored to your level, goals, and interests. Lessons adapt to you: at your desk, in a café, or on a walk. In person in Madrid or online.
Who this is for
While small-group classes are hands-down the best way to learn a language, private tutoring can be a good way to practice on a tight, awkward, or unpredictable schedule. One-on-one writing and editing practice can also be highly productive. Private tutoring often works best for businesspeople, attorneys, and young people who are already studying English in school. Private tutoring can take place online, but students tend to learn more from in-person sessions. They're more personal, more engaging, and I strongly recommend making virtual tutoring no more than a supplemental practice along your road to fluency.
What to expect
At our initial meeting, I'll evaluate your English level and help you set some goals (concrete, "can-do" statements based on your needs) and establish a learning plan. All our sessions will be specifically tailored to help you reach your individual goals. Intensive tutoring and test-preparation may require a quiet, focused environment; on the other hand, conversation sessions can take place in a variety of settings.
I strongly believe that happy students learn better and faster, so if you want to practice English on the padel court, while hiking in Manzanares el Real, sitting in Retiro Park, or while enjoying a glass of tinto de verano at a sidewalk cafe, I will do my best to facilitate your preference. I'm happy to meet you just about anywhere in Madrid. Contact me anytime to set up an introductory meeting.
Levels and formats
I am happy to tutor any level of student, but my teaching style is communicative, immersion English, most easily adapted to intermediate and advanced students from age 16 to adult. I have experience in IELTS and other test preparation, but I am a skeptic of the test-preparation industry, and I regard "studying for the test" as a practice that undermines real learning.
"Repetition is the mother of learning." Ideally, English should be practiced daily, with either classes or tutoring sessions at least three times a week to sustain progress. Together, we'll find a schedule that works for you. Meetings should be at least one hour to give your brain time to adjust and settle in to the language difference.
